Emilie „Emy“ Mautner von Markhof

Emilie “Emy” Edle v. Reininghaus (*Graz 30.5.1881 / † Gaaden 14.5.1974) was the daughter of Gustav I Reininghaus and Maria née Eisl. She married her uncle Georg II Anton Mautner von Markhof and bore him seven children: Marceline, Georg III “Buwa”, Gustav I, Charlotte, Therese, Peter and Karlmann. She outlived her husband by 40 years and after his death she became the focus of all her children and grandchildren and her Gaaden estate became the center of the family. Despite her respectable personality, she was very kind and met the stories of her many descendants – usually knitting and with a cigar in her mouth – with great understanding. The nanny Nana lived by her side for over 50 years and painted a comprehensive portrait of her in the German edition of her memoirs.
